Shaped Charge Liner Material. It is conceivable that improvements in liner geometry. Energetic structural materials ESMs have many potential military applications due to their unique functions. In this work the reactivity and penetration performance of ESMs have been examined as a shaped charge liner material. The shaped charge liner is made of red copper that is a kind of metal with high ductility. A liner 18 for a shaped-charge 10 that is compressively formed from a mixture of powdered metal powdered metal binder and a selected quantity of nanoparticle material is used to achieve improved penetration depths during perforation of a wellbore. A Shaped Charge SC is an explosive device used to focus a detonation in a desired direction and has applications in demolition and oil extraction. Shaped charges for use in oil and gas well perforation and retrieval operations typically will consist of a casing which houses a quantity of explosive and a liner formed from a compressed-powder. A conventional shaped charge generally has a conical metal liner that projects a hypervelocity jet of metal able to penetrate steel armour to great depths.
Alternatives copper has remained a favourite conical liner material for several decades even though its behind armour effects are very limited and iron and tantalum alloys perform better for EFP liners.

Shaped charge liners are not always made of glass or metals eg the Naval Proving Ground describes a shaped charge with a liner made of balsa wood. Yet it performs worse than copper when tried as a cone for a shaped charge device.
